There's Still Time to Apply for Admission...

Your Guide to Enrolling at Iowa State in Fall 2009 and Spring 2010!

So you have decided that Iowa State is the university you want to attend. Great! Now is the time to apply. Applying for admission is the essential first step to receiving financial aid, registering for classes, signing up for housing options, and meeting with advisers. Here are step-by-step instructions and important dates to help make the transition to Iowa State easier for you:

  • Iowa State University's Office of Admissions will observe summer hours May 11, 2009 - August 14, 2009 to help conserve energy. Summer office hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • An estimated 2,464 students received bachelor's degrees from Iowa State at the conclusion of spring semester. Just like these students, you can achieve your goals and aspirations at Iowa State!
  • More than 7,000 jobs are available on-campus for Iowa State undergraduate students. Off-campus positions are also readily available in Ames and the surrounding communities. The Office of Student Financial Aid maintains the Student Employment Center's Job Board, which lists employment opportunities and is available to students via the Web.
  • VEISHEA 2009 has come and gone. Over the years, VEISHEA has grown into one of the largest student-run celebrations in the country! Explore VEISHEA 2009.

Do you have a question on where to find information about Iowa State's undergraduate colleges? Never fear, help is here! Below are Web sites from Iowa State's six undergraduate colleges to help you through your transfer process.

Join Us at Orientation!

When you attend orientation, you will register for your first semester classes. In addition, you will increase your knowledge of Iowa State University, including important policies and procedures. At orientation you will:

  • Meet with an academic adviser
  • Register for classes
  • Obtain your ISUCard (permanent identification card)
  • Sign up for your free Iowa State e-mail account
  • Become familiar with the campus
  • Consult with a financial aid adviser, if needed
  • Learn about resources such as tutoring, counseling, and student clubs
  • Take placement assessments in English, and foreign languages, if necessary
  • Register for Destination Iowa State

Financial Opportunities

Need-based aid is still available for those who qualify. In order to be considered for financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Lagomarcino Courtyard Hands-on experience is the name of the game for students in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management (HRI). The Joan Bice Underwood Tearoom, which is a student-run campus dining restaurant, is run top to bottom by students enrolled in HRI classes. The Tearoom serves entrees, salads, desserts, bread, and beverages. The Quality Food Management and Fine Dining classes are two opportunities for students to combine the educational arena with real world experience.
