Industrial engineers are responsible for designing and improving the critical systems that help organizations fulfill their objectives. As an industrial engineer you will investigate new ways to make your company more profitable; you will identify opportunities to improve your company’s performance in the global marketplace; you will be challenged to innovate, solve problems, and keep your firm ahead of the competition; you will design, analyze, build, and improve systems to produce and distribute goods and services; you will work on product development teams, helping designers create products that can be manufactured easily and inexpensively; and you will play a major role in creating high-performance systems that are more productive, more responsive to customers, and cost less. As an industrial engineer at Iowa State you will learn the fundamentals of the profession and develop specific expertise with hands-on experience in areas that interest you most, including engineering management, manufacturing, human factors, enterprise computing, and operations research.
