College of Human Sciences: Education: Family and Consumer Sciences Education and Studies

Challenging, rewarding, stimulating. Family and consumer sciences education and studies at Iowa State prepares students for a profession working with diverse individuals and families. Students become competent in communicating ideas well and helping students learn and grow. Since 1871, we have helped create new developments in the field of family and consumer sciences education, increase the knowledge base through research, and prepare professionals to be leaders in creating changes in society. If you choose the education option, you may gain license to teach grades 7-12 with a focus on parenting, money management, nutrition and wellness, and family life skills; or teach adults and youth in settings such as community colleges, Cooperative Extension, and youth and community programs. Our undergraduate programs prepare professionals for diverse and challenging careers that positively impact individuals, families, and consumers.
