College of Human Sciences: Education: Elementary Education

Education is one of the most important, versatile, and rewarding career choices today. Today's educators are expected to have specialized knowledge and skills on a par with lawyers, doctors, nurses, architects, and other professionals. Teachers work in a wide range of settings and deal with challenging issues such as early childhood education, disability services, violence prevention, youth development, family education, school reform, and cultural diversity. A degree in elementary education at Iowa State prepares you either to teach all subjects or to specialize in mathematics, science, language arts, or social studies. The curriculum in elementary education is planned for students preparing to teach in grades kindergarten through six. Teaching endorsements in areas closely related to elementary education, including a special education endorsement in multi-categorical resource teaching, are available for elementary education majors. Effective teachers are vitally important to the future of our communities and nation.
