College of Human Sciences: Education: Early Childhood Education
The curriculum at Iowa State in early childhood education is planned for students preparing to teach young children and work with their families. This program leads to careers in working with young children who are typically developing and those with special needs from birth through age eight. The teachers and parents who guide these young children are responsible for providing rich experiences that will influence children all their lives. Teaching is a challenging responsibility, but the personal and professional rewards are many. As the number of childcare facilities continues to increase, so does the demand for early childhood developers, especially since many more families have two working parents. Early childhood educators provide planned educational experiences for groups of young children and / or services to their families. Children's mental, physical, emotional, and social growth is stimulated through activities designed to promote learning and the joy of life.
